For the first time since 2003, the state of Florida is finally updating the design on everyone’s driver license’s and ID cards. This highly-anticipated change will take place starting next month, August, but old licenses and ID cards will still be valid to be in use until they expire or are phased out. Every location will have the new designs by December 2017, and you can renew yours at GoRenew.com--though you are not obligated to.
These designs will have a number of changes, first of which is a past rendering of the state seal and a large, orange “F.” The back of the card will include an outline of Florida along with a backdrop of ocean waves. This new design will also highlight Florida’s history as the 27th state in the union, and this will be commemorated with an 1845 on the back as well.
The ID photos will be printed transparently, and they will be visible in four different places on the card. This protective measure will also be following with UV ink, two separate bar codes, and a see-through circle in gold. For veterans and organ donors, designs will also be updated, and certain colors will be used to determine the class of license--blue for commercial, green for regular, red for ID, and orange for learner’s permits.
